Prerequisite: Completion of Grade 9
Credits: Up to 35 (one credit earned per 25 hours of work)
In Work Experience, students can further their education through an off-campus placement in an occupation. This program allows students to explore their career interests while still completing school requirements.
Work Experience students will:
- Learn more about occupations of interest to them by participating in meaningful work at a job site;
- Come to understand the importance of developing acceptable work habits, following good grooming habits and maintaining strong self-discipline;
- Develop a positive attitude towards other people; and
- Learn more about business organization and structure, and the relationships between employees, employers, unions and government through direct contact with these agencies.
Work Experience students can earn up to 35 credits, 15 of which will count towards high school diploma requirements. Students can carry on Work Experience throughout the summer in order to maximize the number of credits awarded.
Students who need to complete two Grade 12 30-level courses for graduation purposes can enrol in a 10-credit Work Experience 35 course and must take a compulsory one-credit HCS 3000 Workplace Safety Systems module.
Location: Varies by job placement
Dates & Times: Varies by job placement; any time from 7am-10pm, Monday - Sunday.
