Enhancing the Student Experience in Virtual Learning

In our high school Virtual Learning program, flexibility is key. We prioritize tailoring the learning journey to each student's needs by integrating it into their daily lives. Unlike traditional schooling, rigid schedules and semester deadlines are a thing of the past, allowing students to craft their educational path in a manner that suits them best.

We firmly believe that learning should extend beyond the confines of the classroom. Hence, we look to assist students in earning credits by translating real-world experiences, such as travel, work, or unique opportunities, into academic pursuits, thereby infusing their studies with real-life relevance.

Our dedicated educators play a key role in supporting students through their academic and complementary courses. With an emphasis on interactive and engaging multimedia resources, our curriculum is designed to captivate students' interest and foster deeper comprehension. Furthermore, students benefit from insightful feedback on their work and timely assistance from teachers, ensuring a solid understanding of concepts prior to formal assessments.

In addition to academic support, Virtual Learning students have access to a robust support infrastructure encompassing technical assistance for any issues they encounter, as well as guidance to navigate their high school journey and plan for future endeavors.

In Virtual Learning, students are empowered to take ownership of their educational journey. We are committed to providing the necessary support and resources to help them thrive and achieve their goals.

Student-Teacher Interaction

Virtual Learning is teacher-led but student-directed: the teacher does all of the planning, lesson design and assessment, and provides student feedback. Students interact with their coursework on a schedule that works for them and from their own unique perspective. Although students may work through their courses at a flexible pace, it is recommended that they connect with their teacher as needed.

Our staff support and connect with students and families in a variety of ways, including Email, Google Meets, Phone calls, and in-person meetings. Staff provide important feedback on assignments and assessments through our learning platform and our courses offer formative assessment opportunities to ensure students are ready for any summative assessment to come.

10-12 Virtual is an Asynchronous program; In this learning format, students primarily learn on their own schedule. Teacher support can be requested at any time; for live (synchronous) support, students may book an appointment time. The student is supported in their learning through video and audio lessons, text-based lesson materials, and independent formative and summative assignment work. Students are tasked with the responsibility to complete all learning activities according to their goals and timelines created in collaboration with the teacher.

Considerations

Are you an independent and self-motivated learner?

Virtual Learning requires students to have high self-motivation and independence in order to be successful.

Do you work better completing one task after another, or multiple tasks at the same time?

Even full-time students have some flexibility in the number of courses they enrol in at any given time. Students can complete courses sequentially at a faster pace, or concurrently at a slower pace, depending on which method works best for them.

Do you have access to the needed technology for each student enrolled in Virtual Learning?

Virtual Learning requires good, reliable internet access, and each student will need their own dedicated device equipped with a webcam to engage with their lessons.

Please see the Criteria & Considerations page for more information that will help you decide if CFL's Virtual Learning program is a good fit for you.
