Outdoor Adventuring

Credits: 10 (or more if we do first aid as well)

Embark on a journey with Connections for Learning's immersive summer school program, where education meets adventure in the great outdoors. Our dynamic curriculum seamlessly blends outdoor education, wildlife exploration, survival skills, environmental stewardship, and wellness in nature.

Designed for active learners seeking to broaden their horizons, our program takes students on an unforgettable exploration of nature's wonders. Guided by experienced instructors, participants will venture into picturesque local landscapes, unlocking the secrets of the wilderness while earning valuable high school credits.

Engage in hands-on activities such as shelter building, fire crafting, outdoor culinary adventures, survival training, and the art of trip planning. Delve into the essence of outdoor living, learning practical skills while fostering a deep appreciation for the environment.

As a highlight, participants have the unique opportunity to partake in a two-day, one-night camping excursion, immersing themselves fully in the beauty and tranquility of nature.

Students will have the opportunity to earn the following credits:

  • ENS1010 Intro to Stewardship (1 credit)
  • FOR 1010: Forests and Society (1 credit)
  • FOR 1020: Forest Ecology Regions of Canada (1 credit)
  • WLD 1010: Introduction to Wildlife (1 credit)
  • WLD 1020: Wildlife Diversity (1 credit)
  • WLD1060 Wilderness Navigation (1 credit)
  • WLD 1090: Boating Safety (1 credit)
  • WLD1100 Outdoor Cooking Theory (1 credit)
  • WLD1130 Outdoor Survival Skills (1 credit)
  • WLD 2100: Outdoor Cooking Practice (1 credit)

Locations: Connections For Learning and local parks (day trips)

Dates & Times:

  • July 2-4 from 9am-4pm 
  • July 7-10 from 9am-4pm (July 8 is the overnight camping trip, returning July 9)

Please note:

  • This course has an additional fee - please see the Summer School Fees page for details. A funding subsidy is available.
  • Students will need to arrive at Connections for Learning Spruce Grove Campus by 8am to be ready to depart by 8:15am and will return at 4:45pm.
